If you really want to minimise the stress of moving house then you should start organising everything at least six weeks before the move. Use the following checklist in a combination with the “Who should you notify about your move?” to get you through the crucial six weeks before the moving day.

Start with the confirmation of the exact date of the move.
- If you’re renting, notify your landlord of the previously confirmed moving date.
- If you have home insurance – be sure you have cover from the exact date you move in to your new home.
- Get written quotes from more than two removal companies. Get more information and references of these firms.
- Find extra storage space if needed. Book it only for items you are going to use later. Don’t clutter.
- Notify the utility companies of your move.
- Get rid of items you no longer need. Donate them to charity, hold a sale or give out to your friends for free.
- If you require any new furniture or carpets – it’s time to order them and book a delivery service for when you move in.
What should I do two weeks before moving day?
